Ireland’s largest mobile telecommunications provider Three increases customer base to 4.7m in H1 2024
Three Ireland continued to grow its active customer base in the first half of 2024 with an increase of 600,000, compared to the same period in 2023, bringing the total number of customers to 4.7m. The increase in customer numbers brings Three’s overall market share up to 46.5%, driven by continued expansion in the IoT space along with growth in its 5G Broadband offering.
Three Ireland continued to invest with an overall capital expenditure of €43m in the first half of 2024, bringing the total amount the company has invested in Ireland since 2015 close to €2 billion. As a result of this sustained investment, Three Ireland has reached over 90% 5G coverage nationwide and is continuing to increase its 4G coverage across Ireland at 99.4%. In January, Three became the first Irish operator to launch 5G Standalone technology on a trial basis on its network, enabling businesses to accelerate innovation and performance.
Three Ireland’s results for H1 2024 represent an increase in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) of 11% to €78m from the same period in 2023. As part of its sustainability strategy, Three continues to invest in energy saving initiatives across the network infrastructure in 2024 to further mitigate against energy inflation.
Speaking about the H1 2024 results Simon Henry, CFO Three Ireland, stated: “We are satisfied with our H1 2024 financial performance showing solid margin growth and to see our customer base grow from 4.1 million to 4.7 million, compared with June 2023. Alongside the increase in our customer base, revenue grew to €309m which was up 4% from the first half of 2023 whilst we also saw an increase in gross margin of €10m to €238m, compared with the first half of 2023”.
