Future proof technology enables the use of multiple numbers from one device

Friday, 15^th September 2023: Three Ireland has today announced the availability of eSIMs and eSIM devices for all new and existing customers. The new technology is a further step forward in improved sustainability practices, while allowing consumers the option to utilise multiple numbers off one device.

eSIMs are virtual SIM cards that are ‘embedded’ and preinstalled on compatible devices, removing the need for the insertion of traditional plastic sim cards. Unlike removable SIM cards, eSIMS allow customers to seamlessly transition to Three devices by eliminating the need to buy a SIM card from a Three store or wait for a SIM card to be delivered.

Benefits of eSIMs include the opportunity for customers to have more than one SIM on a device, allowing access to personal and business numbers without carrying two phones. Customers can receive phone calls and text messages on both numbers through the same device and can select which SIM to use for making calls, sending text messages and using data.

The launch also aligns with Three’s sustainability efforts by reducing the need for plastic SIM cards and packaging, while reducing postage requirements.

eSIMs and eSIM devices will be available for new customers on all voice plans including Prepay, Business and Consumers from today. Existing customers can visit www.three.ie/activate-my-sim or visit a Three retail store to exchange their current SIM for an eSIM. eSims will require a compatible eSims device.
